Top Three Ways to Guarantee a Tear-Free Birthday Party!
(Download PDF version)

Moms and Dads know that at every party, at least one kid ends up crying. And sometimes parents cry when they get the bill!) Here are three helpful hints to help you plan a tear free party!

Tip #1 Determine how many children should be invited to a young child’s birthday party

Young children may get overwhelmed if you have several children and adults at the party. If the birthday child is turning between 1-5 years old, the smaller the group the more intimate and memorable and tear free it will be. Additionally, most parents do stay at the parties with their children at this age group which adds to the number of people at the party.

When parents stay at the party? Several adults in the same room as the party can be distracting. Parents (and I am guilty of this as well) tend to talk and socialize and catch up with friends during the party which is natural and understandable. However, this can lead to the overwhelming part for the birthday child. Obviously, parents should stay if they are more comfortable staying then leaving. However, you can manage the adults just as you are managing the party. Have a separate area for the adults so they are able to chit chat. Have food, snacks, drinks in that area so that they can stay and have fun. This way they are not distracting the children who are participating in the party. Everyone is happy!!

Tip #2 Make sure the venue and party theme age appropriate

Games and goody bags should vary depending on the theme of the party. If a party venue or theme is more appropriate for older children, a younger child is not going to have fun playing a game that is not at their age level. If you are having the party at a party destination, ask them what the most age appropriate party is for your child’s age. It will save you and your child from being frustrated on their big day.

Tip #3 Determine your budget

This is more so that the parent does not shed tears as they are settling up the bill at the party venue! Decide on a budget and try to stick with it. Sometimes this is harder than it would seem. Many party locations offer different packages. When you call ask the venue the following questions:

  • How many children are included in your party package?
  • What does the package include?
  • What will I be responsible for?
  • Will my child’s party be the only party or will there be others at the same time?
  • Do you have any birthday party specials or coupons currently being offered?

Many party locations offer coupons on line and every little bit helps so don’t be afraid to ask! Additionally, sometimes you can get better pricing if you are able to have your party during the week instead of during a popular weekend time. You might learn that having a party at a party destination can be as affordable as having it at home, more enjoyable, and better yet…you can leave when it’s time to clean up!

Testimonials

We recently hosted my sister's bridal shower at The Glass Slipper, and it was perfect! A close friend had her shower there a few months ago, and I loved it so much we had to do it again. It was by far the easiest party I have ever planned. The food is fabulous, and what could be more fun than a tea party? It was completely stress-free, with just one or two phone calls everything was taken care of. All I had to do was show up and have fun! I would highly recommend The Glass Slipper to anyone who has a party to plan.

My daughter Abigail celebrated her 7th birthday at the Glass Slipper Tea House. She chose the Spa Birthday Theme. Abigail had a fabulous experience at the Glass Slipper from the moment we arrived. She pointed out to me that the welcome sign announced "Happy Birthday Abigail!". The tea room was beautifully decorated and set with differently designed china cups. The girls had lots of fun picking their favorite tea cup pattern. Abigail was delighted to be crowned with a Happy Birthday princess crown. She wore it the whole party! The girls had their pink tea and muffins for snack and then moved onto birthday cake. The cake was delicious! After cake, Abigail opened her gifts. Mom's favorite part was actually getting to watch Abigail open her gifts instead of trying to write down who each gift was from (one of the Glass Slipper party hosts copied down all the names and gifts for me). When it was time for the spa treatment each girl put on a child size blue spa robe. They looked adorable! The girls then had their day at the spa which included learning how to relax, a cold eye mask, a homemade oatmeal mask, moisturizing, and nail soaking. For the finishing touch each girl selected a shade of lip gloss and nail color. I loved the theme because it was more about how to take good care of yourself and skin care rather than all about make-up. The girls loved the theme because it was just lots of fun and they got to take home lip gloss! The glass slipper also provided party favor bags for each guest to take home. Everyone and especially the birthday girl had a great afternoon! Abigail even got to paint her hand and leave her handprint on the wall upstairs along with all the other little girls that have celebrated special occasions at the Glass Slipper. Abigail's 7th birthday was a great success thanks to the Glass Slipper Tea House!

I am so thrilled to have had my beautiful daughter's sixth birthday party at The Glass Slipper. In a society that seems to mature children much too soon, The Glass Slipper provided the perfect environment for a dream party for "little Princesses". From the enchanting storytelling, to the dress up room allowing the "real" Princesses to come to life, to the graceful tea and sandwiches lunch, it was exactly as I dreamed it could have been. My little Princesses are still talking about it today! Thank you so much for providing such an appropriate escape for little girls at such a wonderful stage. I would highly recommend The Glass Slipper to all those who wish to provide their little girls the perfect birthday experience!

The Glass Slipper did an amazing job catering a Spa Birthday Party to meet (and exceed) the expectations of my seven year old! Organizing the party was extremely easy with the guidance and excellent communication skills of Stacey Haney, the owner of the Glass Slipper. The girls were ecstatic to arrive at the gorgeous Victorian house prepared for a tea party to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Excitement built as they were ushered upstairs to put on fancy robes to prepare for their pampering spa treatments. The Glass Slipper did a wonderful job managing 10 giggling girls while they painted their nails and gave themselves oatmeal facials. This was a day my daughter will never forget! We would like to thank the Glass Slipper and Stacey for making this such a special day!

My daughter didn't stop smiling for days after her wonderful birthday party at the Glass Slipper. My daughter and her friends enjoyed the super special spa treatment and I enjoyed the most relaxing birthday party I've ever had. From the cake to the goodie bags to writing down the gifts, all I had to do was relax and take pictures! Stacey took care of everything and was a pleasure to work with. When I saw how much my daughter enjoyed the party and heard her friends remark that it was "the best party ever" I knew it was a birthday she would always remember.
